The Observer

March 30, 2009

Every so often when having a talk with someone a part of my mind observes the interaction in a very detatched manner making observations on how we humans interact…. I often wonder if i am the only person that does this

Disagreeing Agreeably

March 30, 2009

Recently i heard some in an interview saying that to work with ppl one needs to learn to disagree agreeably.

This skill comes with time. There are those who are born with this, but the rest of us have to work at developing it.

I for one am a far way away…

A Good Day

March 30, 2009

My Friday was a good day.

It actually started from Thursday, when i decided to skip work early and go to the gym. It was painful, but i felt good at the end. After practice i decided to go to work, once i got there I was good to go. The work vibe stayed with me till five the next morning…
Of course i am on a High after that.

I get home and sleep till 9:30 when a friend (“Tek di wyne”) callls me to remind me i promised to take her to the beach  that day… so i was up again (approx 3 hours sleep) to pick her up and head to the beach. She recommended sugarmans beach, but my brain (tired as it was) was on autopilot and drove straight to frenchmans cove. No horrors there, except frenchmans is too ruff for her to get any decent swimming done, add to that the brown water and constant seaweed was not very appealing. I found myself thinking thinking (as i normally do) that the worst beach in Mobay is WAY better than this (and if i feel this way can you imagine how ppl from Negril feel <sigh>).
So of course, i being idle, decide to go see why she thinks this sugarmans beach is so much better

WOW!!!!

Better is an understatement….. Freanchmans is coastline with sand while sugarmans is a beach.

Now dont get me wrong, its no Negril beach, or doctors cave…. but having seeing not much worth hoping for on my nation’s southern coastline (disclaimer: i have not explored much beyond Kingston and St. Catherine) to see white sands and clear and calm water accessible from the mainland was a wonderful novelty.

So i spend a few hours at a real beach….. YAY!

After leaving i am dead tired, I drop my friend of and then head home to bath and change to get food and then move pans for a rehearsal that night.

Note: i get home at 2pm, moving is at 4pm. i have two hours.

I get home, and as i am heading for the bath I sit in the bed. Who tell mi fi go do that!? Next thing i remember someone is calling me at four asking me where i am…. oops.

In any case that nap was good.

Now, every thing from then on is constant work and driving up and down, I dont mind I like being productive, But i digress…

Practice runs later than i wanted so i do not reach mass camp till 11. To be honest, I was so tired by then that i felt like dropping. Already some ppl were calling a texting saying they werent gonna make it, kinda killing the vibe a bit. But BIG UP! to the Die hard Wyning Criminals crew… there will always be a posse at mas camp, so i was good. Still i expected to just sip some liquor and rock for the whole night……

Fortunately DJ Chrome and DJ Smoke and 2 ladies at the bar had other plans for me. ..
Suffice it to say i could not tell you if my high was from music or the liquor… I do know they amplified each other.
Friday was one of the BEST nights for the year It was HYPE!!! Loved it!

So much so actually that now i am gonna try to source funding to go to beach jouvert… not looking good… but i am gonna try :D

In any case, at the end we lymed inside mass camp till well after everyone had left. While dropping home ppl I decided to put on some calypso oldies…. SWEEEEEEEEET. In fact Trini and Vincy wyne refused to leave my vehicle when they reached there destination until i stopped the CD.

I got home at 3am on Saturday and fell asleep with a BIG smile on my face.

Friday was a good day.

Question

March 23, 2009

Many times while interacting with others a space is left for a question.

This question is required to facilitate or validate the desire of the listener to hear the information to be unlocked by the query. When this is not forthcoming, the speaker may feel that the listener does not want to hear what he/she had to say.

I find this an awkward situation, as often times it is hard to determine the correct question or sequence of questions to unlock the information that wants to be released. Often My Questions will be broad in the hope the speaker will take the opportunity to volunteer information… but more often than not it is mis-interpreted to mean a reluctance to hear much more.

The nuances of human interaction are, as always, more complicated than they really need to be

All in my head

March 21, 2009

In another conversation with myself I said:

Something being stupid and reckless is no reason not to do it. If its important to you, its important to you, end of story.

in reply a new comer to convo asked:

and where does God fit in that equation?

Bogue

March 19, 2009

Bogue (power plant) smells the same way it did when i started working 5 years ago…. and i have to say i smile every time the distinctive scent washes over me….. Its like coming back to where it all began. :)

Altimont West

March 19, 2009

I have stayed at Gloustesher, West Court, El Greco and Altimont West in mobay. And Where as El Greco has the best parking and rooms, as a “business” traveler I have to say Altimont is my favourite.

The rooms are small, but the fascilities still look new and work, unlike ….
Most importantly though the offer internet connections in the room for free… (Sadly this is a novelty item in jamaica)

They have a conference room and a meeting area that you are free to use provided its not booked, a pool (that i have never seen anyone use) 25 inch flat panel TV’s (which is now standard in most hotels). With Cable channels that work (not standard).

The only catch is that there Parking is small and SH*TY
the only place i know that has worst parking is place that has NO parking… lawx! they need to fix that. The staff, as can be expected, is freindly, albeit i rarely interact with them….. AND i get to keep the iron for my entire stay!

Those of you who have used Gloustersher and Westcourt will understand.

It has been a great stay this is my fourth or fifth time there
and its the only place i want to stay when travelling to Mobay. Of course if El Greco finally adds irons & Internet service then…….

Musical Evolution

March 16, 2009

I want to do more.

I feel like I am reaching the next level of my evolution musically

I find I want to arrange and compose… but more often than not, I really want to freestyle (I SUCK AT IT!) but I LOVE doing it.

Similarly,  of late whenever I am at a fete I want to do more than the regular wining and jumping and waving…I want to do something different, fun and .. well the word I want is more “expressive”.

At a fete when a really good song seeps into your blood stream you body wants to release the resulting energy… this release is called dancing… but over time one needs to grow. Forms one goes through while dancing needs to become more complex and evolved, utilizing more of the energy produced by the music.

And so for the first time in my life I am tempted to learn other dance forms… simply because I want to incorporate it in when at a fete. I find that my current modes of expressing my love for the music is too limited.

I don’t know where this now desire will take me, but hopefully it will lead me back to the days when at the end of a soca fete I am giddy as if was drinking without touching a drop of liquor and my shirt is SOAKING wet ;)
